It was back in  1982 when Umberto Belluzzo, then head of the Riello Group, decided to abandon a brilliant and highly successful career in industry, to embark on a new professional career as a Commercialista (certified public accountant) in Italy. Growth was rapid and the experience he had gained in industry, above all at international level, qualified him as the perfect advisor to large companies and corporate groups.

In 1996, after returning from professional experiences abroad, his eldest son, Luigi Belluzzo, joined the Firm and contributed to launching it at  International level.  The vision was to position the firm as an international practice and aim for greater depth on tax issues, as well as participating in research committees such as the CTI at the prestigious Bocconi University in Milan.

In the last years of the millennium, new professionals joined, amongst them Stefano Barone, who would become the first partner, thereby opening the way for the Firm to become more of an extended family, united by shared values and excellence.

At the start of the new millennium, the Firm became the Italian benchmark for tax and legal consultancy of the PKF network, which it decided to leave at the start of 2005, in order to give priority to its’ approach as an  international professional boutique firm. The firm has not looked back since.

On November the 1st 2005, the firm opened an office in Milan, made up of 4 partners and 10 professionals. Luigi Belluzzo, reflecting on the move, comments: “We were passionate, determined and ever more convinced that we were on the right path”.

During the same period, a representative office in London opened, as an International hub for professional services. The overriding reason for selecting London as the first overseas office was to take advantage of the opportunity to nurture and further develop the relationships previously built during the period when Luigi Belluzzo and the Firm made up one of the 7 members of the International tax Committee for PKF International in London.

The London office started to take its’ first steps alongside the Firm’s international development of its’ Italian clients.

A few years later, Alessandro Belluzzo, Umberto’s youngest son, moved to London following an academic career at Bocconi University. Alessandro took full responsibility of the London office.  Belluzzo & Associati LLP was born on June 3rd, 2008.

Alessandro is a Registered European Lawyer (“REL”) with the BAR association and is a qualified Trust Estate Practitioner (“TEP”) in the United Kingdom.  He deals predominantly with estate planning, most notably with regard to international taxation and family businesses.

Staff numbers increased together with the number of clients: at that time there were over 35 professionals working across two countries: Italy & United Kingdom.

On October the 1st 2009, the firm became one of  the founders of RETIS – Professionisti Italiani nel Mondo (Italian professionals throughout the world), a non-profit consortium which brings together the experiences of many high profile  Italian firms abroad and represents the backbone of a system of international qualified professionals, with members from all five continents.

At the same time, in Verona, a new partner, Avv. Francesco Lombardo, joined the firm.

In 2012, the firm celebrated 30 years of professional practice: In the words of Luigi: “We look ahead, with the strength of our values and the results we have achieved. Ever more convinced that we have made the right choice, based on a type of consultancy that flanks a solid knowledge of best practices with targeted work, tailored to every specific need”. Every member of the team was fully committed, driven by Umberto Belluzzo’s motto: “We do not do everything, but we excel in what we do™”.

The following years saw further development and growth built on decisions reflecting common values and one vision. The name of the firm changed to Belluzzo & Partners. Luca Cordelli, a qualified UK solicitor and member of the New York Bar joined the partnership in London. Luca previously enjoyed a successful career at the Merger Task Force of the European Commission in Brussels (Belgium) and later practiced law for more than 10 years in New York.

During 2015, growth intensified, aided in part by the new tax rules in Italy.  2016 saw the entrance of two new Equity Partners. Daniele Carlo Trivi, already a senior tax partner at Arthur Andersen in Italy, with a vast experience as one of the leading tax advisors to large Italian firms, joined the firm to head up the Milan office. Daniele is a well-respected senior advisor, particularly in the banking and finance industry, and a keynote speaker every year at the Italian Tax Master organized by Il Sole 24 Ore. Tony Castagnetti, English born from Italian parents, is a qualified chartered accountant and registered auditor with the leading UK professional body, the ICAEW.  Tony joined the London office in 2016. With him, he brought with him a wealth of experience as both an auditor and corporate business advisor, having worked at some of the UK’s top professional firms in London.

A cooperation agreement was also signed with Prof. Andrea Moja, a lawyer who works actively both in Italy and worldwide in trust and estate planning.

In March, we opened an office in Singapore, as part of the business plan for an Asia gate, following the country’s enrolment onto the white listed countries for both the UK and Italy.

Malcolm Lim was appointed as Partner of the Singapore office.  Malcolm is a lawyer admitted to the Bar both in the UK and Singapore.  He deals predominantly with estate planning and international probate.

In July 2016 the firms took on new partnership rules within an International frame, paving the way to the one firm approach on a contractual basis.

On January 2017, a new office opened in Lugano, Switzerland.

On the 7th of September 2017, the Firm adopted both a new statute and new governance. Further partners joined: Alberto Gironda, Alberto Franceschetti, Lorena Pellissier , Giacomo Francioni and, at the start of 2018, Paola Bergamin and Stefano Serbini were the latest professionals to join the Firm as  Partners.

We are focusing towards niche markets, strengthening our base in Singapore, adding to our European presence with our office in Switzerland.  We have plans to expand to Monte Carlo, Luxembourg, and, in the long term, to the United States.

We are looking further to growth in our niche market, appointing an European manager in Singapore, reinforcing the Swiss office and with projects to develop in Monaco, Luxembourg and the US.

In 2018 we launched the rebranding of our Firm, to underline its’ position in the market. We increasingly believe in our position as consultants of choice for entrepreneurial families, with our particular strengths in wealth planning, tax & legal and group re-organization M&A and special investments and projects.

Belluzzo International Partners is born.

This has been adopted as a brand and “trading name” by all the firms.

We now count more than 70 professionals in our Firm, led by 15 partners. We have 5 offices in 4 jurisdictions and collaborate with a Worldwide network of correspondents.

In the words of our founder Umberto Belluzzo “When I started way back in 1982, I had a vision to create a special firm, that would be seen as the firm of choice for international family businesses. We have become that international boutique firm. We believe in excellence and we do not believe in resting on our laurels.
