Our firm was in Palermo for AIDAF’s 21st National Conference of Family Businesses, “Capaci di innovare: valori, strategie, continuitร nelle imprese familiari” (Able to Innovate: Values, Strategies and Continuity in Family Businesses), held from 1 to 3 October 2026. The conference offered days of discussion on issues central to the future of business families, from family governance to generational transition and continuity. These are complex topics, often open to debate, and were enriched by the first-hand experiences of entrepreneurs and academics.
Founding Partner Luigi Belluzzo spoke at the workshop “The Contribution of In-Laws to Continuity”, one of the conference’s parallel sessions, alongside Laura Bramani Oneto (Vibram), Maria Trotta (Mร s) and Stanislao Vialardi (Ersel). The session was curated and moderated by Salvatore Tomaselli, Professor of Family Business Strategy and Governance at the University of Palermo.
In his remarks, he shared insights and best practices developed at SDA Bocconi and through the work of the firm’s Wealth & Governance department, which advises private clients, business families and family businesses. The audience’s engagement and the many questions raised confirmed that the role of in-laws is today one of the most relevant issues for business families. “It is not just about family relationships,” Luigi Belluzzo observed, “but about continuity, governance, the transmission of values and the balance between family and business, with a view to creating long-term value.”
