Scale-Up route: a new VISA for workers coming to the UK
Months after its announcement, the new “Scale-Up route” entered into force on the 22nd of August 2022.

This VISA is aimed at providing a new route to talented individuals who meet specific requirements.

In order to be eligible for the Scale-Up Visa the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. be recruited by a UK Scale-up Sponsor (i.e., a Company which has achieved a growth of 20 per cent or more in either employment or turnover year-on-year for at least three years and has employed a minimum of ten people  from the start of the three year period)
  2. be in receipt of a high skilled job offer from a qualifying Scale-up business
  3. be in receipt of a salary offer of a minimum GPB 33,000 per year

The visa can last for up to 2 years before the need to extend it and it is a route to settlement. A dependent partner and children can also apply.

Its peculiarity, when compared to the ordinary “Skilled Worker VISA”, is that after six months of working for the sponsoring employer, the immigration status of the Scale-Up worker will no longer be tied to that employer.
